See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? (Isaiah 43:19 NIV)

From the Pastor's Desk
 January 2019

Dear Saints,

LET GOD'S GOODNESS AND MERCY FOLLOW YOU

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life; And I will [a]dwell in the house of the Lord[b] Forever (Psalm 23:6 NKJ).

The year 2019 has just dawned. There are so many unknowns in the year. We don’t know how many people will be born or die this year? We also don’t know how the world’s economy will be? Neither do we know how natural disasters like earth quakes, flood, fire, famine etc will impact lives in the various regions of the world?
However, we do know that, there is a God who controls the affairs of mankind. He knows the beginning from the end. Before anything happens, he already knows it; and has contingency plans to deal with it.

Psalm 23 is a well-known psalm in the Bible. It speaks of David’s deep relationship with God. He begins by addressing God as his Shepherd; who leads him to green pastures and still waters. He talks of God as one who restores his soul, and guides him in paths of righteousness. He also describes how God protects him through the valley of the shadow of death. He writes that, this God comforts him with his rod and staff. He talks of God preparing a table before him in the presence of his enemies; and that, he anoints his head with oil; making his cup to overflow. Lastly, David ended his psalm by saying; Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life; And I will [a]dwell in the house of the Lord[b] Forever (Psalm 23:6).

The question is; Why was David able to assure himself of God’s goodness and mercy? Firstly, I believe he understood God’s faithfulness to all those who walk with him. He remembered when he was taking care of his sheep; and his desire to always be present to help them in times of need.

Secondly, as a shepherd, he had knowledge of what every shepherd does to take care of his sheep; i.e taking them to green pastures and still waters. For, the sheep’s physical strength depended on how well they’re fed and watered.

Thirdly, David experienced God’s lovingkindness in every area of his life. It was his duty as a shepherd to love his sheep unconditionally. This love was demonstrated in various ways. He fought off wild animals that would come and prey on his sheep. He saw his relationship with his sheep like a covenant that could not be broken or altered.

David therefore assured himself of the constancy of God’s goodness and mercy on his life; because, he was under God’s shepherding. The Bible says;
But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were [a]weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd (Matthew 9:36). Jesus was moved with compassion for the people who had no shepherd, because the devil was troubling them. In 2019, my question to you is; Who is your shepherd? If we  want to have God as our shepherd, then, definitely we will be followed by his goodness and mercy, as was the case in David’s life.

On behalf of my family, staff, and the entire members of Disciples Revival Church,
 I WISH YOU HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
