See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? (Isaiah 43:19 NIV)

Dear Saints,

FAITHFULNESS

“He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and he who is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much (Luke 16:10 RSV).

Faithfulness is at the core of our relationship with God and each other; yet it’s often overlooked or downplayed. Google dictionary defines it as; the quality of being faithful, fidelity. A definition like this helps us understand that, faithfulness is the glue that binds all human relationships be they family, business, church or work.

Faithfulness speaks volumes about who we are as a people in relation to our character. For example, faithfulness plays a huge role in marriage, business transactions, manufacturing of quality products, smooth running of a corporation or a church. We trust people; because we do compare their words to their actions. It is said that, actions speak louder than words.

Our walk with God also depends on his faithfulness to us and vice versa. For, why should we continue to serve him and trust his promises, if he’s incapable of keeping them?  Why should we depend on him in time of trouble and sorrow, if he’s incapable of comforting us? Why should we continue to pray to him if he’s incapable of answering us?

Since the dawn of time, man’s experiences with God has proven him (God) as faithful. Examples of his faithfulness are revealed in the footprints he left behind as he walked with man from the Garden of Eden to the coming of Jesus – his birth, ministry, death, burial, resurrection and ascension.
Even when God knew that Adam and Eve had violated his command, he went in search of them. At the height of man’s disobedience, he saved a remnant through his faithful servant Noah. Through the faithfulness of Joseph, God fed his people during the time of famine in the land.

Other explicit acts of God’s faithfulness are noted during the deliverance of the Jewish people in Egypt; and their journey through the wilderness to the Promised Land. The victories he gave to his people during their conquest in the land of Canaan, and the establishment of the monarchy all bore the fingerprints of God’s faithfulness. As well, the miraculous pregnancy of Jesus, and the birth of his church through the twelve disciples also attest to his faithfulness.

The history of the Church right from her foundation on the day of Pentecost to present is without opposition and persecution. However, there was never a time that she didn’t experience God’s faithfulness. For God has always stood, and will continue to stand by his church (Christians).

If so, then, the question is, “As a people, how faithful are we in our relationship with him?” In his parable of the Unjust Steward, Jesus contrasted faithfulness and dishonesty through the dubious character of the unjust steward. He concluded by saying, “He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and he who is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much (Luke 16:10 RSV).

Saints, there’s so much dishonesty in our world today. In spite of all the negative happenings around us, let’s continue to remain faithful to the King of kings and the Lord of lords. By doing so, we will experience his full blessings and say with Isaiah:
Lord, you are my God;
  I will exalt you and praise your name,
for in perfect faithfulness
    you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago (Isaiah 25:1 NIV).
